Exercise and Divorce: How it Can Help You
Divorce is one of the most traumatic experiences that a person can go through since it drains them emotionally, mentally and physically. Dealing with a divorce effectively, therefore, requires engaging in activities that provide healing on all these levels.
Physical exercise is one activity which can help a person going through a divorce recover holistically. This is due to the fact that regular exercise has been proven to be an effective treatment for mild depression. Activities like jogging and walking briskly also help a person feel better about themselves because the body releases endorphins which are its feel-good hormones when a person is exercising aerobically.
In addition to providing healing on the emotional plane, exercise also provides mental healing since it is a very effective relaxation technique. This is important for persons going through a divorce since it is almost always a very stressful experience. Exercise also clears the mind and helps the person make tough, life-changing decisions with more lucidity.
Exercise also heals a person on the physical plane since it improves sleep and other physiological processes like bowel regularity. Persons who had gained pounds from eating emotionally during their stressful marriages are also able to lose the excess pounds by working out. The toning that exercise provides also helps a person look better which increases their self-confidence.
Therefore regardless of how you currently feel, commit to exercising each day and you will feel better. You can begin by taking a short walk in your compound or neighborhood. As you get more accustomed to exercising, you can amp the tempo and begin jogging or even just buy arm weights and to tone your upper body as you continue walking briskly.
If you are averse to exercising in the strict sense of the word, you can join a dance club or get a dog that needs to be walked every day and you will reap all the physical, mental and emotional benefits of moving your body.
