Same Sex Divorce in Michigan
Since the Supreme Court decided Obergefell v Hodges in June 2015, same sex marriage, and thus divorce, have been legal in Michigan. It does not matter in what State or when you were married. Same sex couples are entitled to file for and receive a divorce in Michigan as long as one of the parties meets the jurisdictional requirements to file for divorce in Michigan. That means one of the parties must have lived in the State of Michigan for at least 6 months, and the county in which they choose to file for at least 10 days, prior to filing for divorce.
DAWN’s family law and divorce attorneys are here to help you through your divorce proceedings.
