Understanding Michigan Annulment Proceedings
An annulment invalidates a marriage. Either party may file a petition or complaint for an annulment in the family division of the county where at least one of the parties resides. An annulment must be brought while both parties are living, and until a court declares the marriage annulled, the marriage is legally binding. A marriage may be annulled under the following circumstances:
- Bigamy
- Marriage prohibited by the relationship of the parties
- Incompetence
- Being under the age of consent
- Fraud and duress
DAWN’s family law and divorce attorneys can help you obtain an annulment of your marriage, if appropriate.
